Mueller Austin Affordable Program
One of the goals of the new urban development at Mueller Austin is the establishment of affordable housing. 25% of homes are to be made available to income qualified buyers. In a nutshell, this means that if you can prove that you earn under 80% of the median Austin family income, you will be able to live in a new 3 star green home close to downtown.
To qualify for the program, you need to apply with the builder's lender to get income certified, and to get qualified for the mortgage. Both attached "row" homes and free standing "yard" homes are available, from builders David Weekley and Meritage.
The scheme involves the non-profit Mueller Foundation paying around 25% of your down payment and retaining a share in the equity of your home which is repayable when you come to sell your home.
You have to choose which builder you are interested in based on their floorplans and availability first, and then apply. The David Weekley Affordable Program application and Meritage Affordable Program application are available to view online.
